The Monastry was founded in 725 AD  the monks controlled the route to the Alps. It is the oldest monastery in Oberbayern.

Under Abbot Walther in the middle ages It was a centre for Goldsmith and Bookbinding and had a library of 250 hand written books.

During the second worldwar it was a military barracks and now it is a centre for  theology,Philosophy and science.
